Free, and Our People Unlimited
What the free app holds, what the one-time purchase lifts, and how to restore it on another phone.
Our People is free to download and free to use. A free family holds 50 people and 3 phones. That is enough for most families, and nothing is taken away or switched off when you reach it.
Our People Unlimited
Our People Unlimited is a one-time purchase of $9.99. It lifts both limits: as many people and as many phones as your family needs. It is not a subscription, there is nothing to renew, and it is never charged again.
One person buys it, and every family they are part of becomes unlimited — for everyone in that family, on every phone. Nobody else in the family has to buy anything, and nobody else has to do anything at all.
Where to find it
Open Settings → Family. The row above “Invite family” says where you stand:
- “Free: 2 of 3 phones · Unlock unlimited” — tap it to see the purchase.
- “Unlimited” with a tick — this family has it already.
You will also be offered it at the moment it matters: when you save a person the family has no room for, when you pick more contacts than will fit, and when you join a family that already has three phones.
Restoring it on another phone
Usually you don’t have to do anything. The purchase belongs to your Apple ID, so on a new phone — or after reinstalling — sign in with the same Apple ID you bought it with, open the app, and your families are unlimited again. The Family row reads “Unlimited” with a tick, and there is nothing to type and no receipt to keep.
If that row still says “Free: … · Unlock unlimited”, tap it and then tap Restore Purchase on the screen that opens. That is the only way to reach the Restore button: once a family is unlimited the row is just a tick and no longer opens anything. When the purchase is found, the screen says “You’re all set.” — tap Done.
A family you join later works the same way: open the app while you are in it, and it becomes unlimited on its own, as long as the purchase has been restored on that phone.
If you see “No purchase to restore on this Apple ID.”, the phone is signed in to a different Apple ID from the one that bought it. Check Settings → your name at the top of iPhone’s own Settings, and try again.
Questions we have been asked
Do I have to buy it for each phone? No. It is one purchase for one Apple ID, and it unlocks every family that person is in — however many phones those families have.
Does the family lose it if I leave? No. Once a family is unlimited it stays unlimited.
What if I am offline? The purchase screen needs the internet, and says so rather than offering a button that cannot work. Everything else in the app carries on as usual.
Is anything collected? No. Apple handles the payment; Our People never sees your card, your name on it, or anything else about it. See the privacy policy.
